It’s Her way or the Highway

A is for Aaliyah’s Attitude

The picture you see above is Aaliyah pulling at the straps of her car seat because she hates being (what I’m sure she’d describe as) imprisoned in it 🤣. The bigger she gets the more particular she is! It’s her way or the highway. 

—I can no longer eat something in front of her and not offer her a bite, because she will get visibly frustrated. 

—She grabs at anything she's interested in sampling, there’s not a dish or cup that’s safe next to her. 

—Even though it's freezing at night, Aaliyah heats up quickly and will wake up just to kick the blankets off of herself and quickly fall back asleep in starfish position. 

—During playtime, she'll get herself into crawling position on her tummy and "crawl" backwards until she inevitably gets frustrated that she can't crawl forward... which then makes her cry. 

—If she is getting some screen time, she'd prefer to have you sitting right next to her, otherwise, she would much rather join you in doing whatever it was you were trying to get done when you gave her screen time to begin with!

I could go on and on! 

The point is Aaliyah has a funny personality already! All she wants to do is, well, everything everyone around her is doing. But she gets frustrated when she can’t do it exactly like you do! She wants to grow up too fast. She learns so quickly and copies everything you show her. The other day I showed her how light switches work. She watched my demonstration closely, she (unsuccessfully) attempted to push the switch with her own finger, then proceeded to grab my hand to make it flip the switch on...and then off...and then on again, and we repeated that at least 10 times! 

Just last night, I brought her into the bathroom with me to brush our teeth. She has about 6 teeth right now, so it's time to start dentist prep. I was notoriously terrified of dentists (I might still dread dentist appointments), so I'm really hoping she will not be that way! Anyway, I gently brushed her tiny teeth (I was so surprised she let me) and then I handed her the brush to try on her own. She started brushing her own teeth and kind of chewing on the brush lol! But it was good practice.

Aaliyah is down for the night and I should get some sleep too!
